The essay, Situational Judgment Test, and Personal Narratives are out. The exam is now three timed multiple-choice sections — and Logical Reasoning is brand new. There is no passing score: the highest scorers in each career track are invited to the FSOA.

How we built this
Prep is only useful if it is honest about what is known and what is estimated.
Where our timings come from
The State Department does not publish per-section question counts, timings, or section order for the redesigned exam. Our section lengths are FSOTPractice's own calibration against the roughly 180-minute total seat time Pearson VUE has cited — not an official specification. We say so inside the simulator too.
How the questions are written
Every question is written in-house against the published scope of the three 2025 sections — Job Knowledge, English Usage & Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning — then reviewed for a single defensible answer and plausible distractors. We do not reproduce real exam items, and we removed everything tied to the retired essay, Situational Judgment Test, and Personal Narratives.

Yes. Our simulator covers the three new sections — Job Knowledge, English Usage & Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning. We do not include the retired essay, Situational Judgment Test, or Personal Narratives.
What score do I need to pass?
There is no published passing score on the FSOT. Candidates are ranked by score within their chosen career track, and the highest scorers are invited to the Foreign Service Oral Assessment based on the needs of the Foreign Service — typically notified about 8–10 weeks after testing. That is why we never show pass or fail: we report percentage correct by section and topic instead.
How do AI explanations work?
After each attempt, paid plans show a written explanation for every question describing why the correct answer is right and why each distractor is wrong.
